The Nautilus Welfare Fund provides an opportunity for retired seafarers and their dependants to live independently, surrounded by like-minded neighbours and with access to a full range of support services to ensure they enjoy a long, safe and happy retirement.

We are specialists in supporting seafarers in their retirement and provide a range of housing options for rent in Merseyside.

The Mariners' Park estate comprises 123 homes − including apartments, bungalows and houses, and a 36-bedroom care home − available for rent by retired seafarers and their dependants. It is a unique place to live, where former seafarers can share memories and camaraderie in their retirement years with others who have experienced life at sea.

There is a range of properties available, both one and two bedroomed, meaning that all residents are able to find the most suitable for their needs and truly make their house a home.

Residents can access a full range of services including regular social events, a home care service to help with shopping, cleaning and other needs; and have a personalised Care Plan to ensure that support is tailor-made to individual needs.

The park promotes independent living, and if you require care, you can be supported in your own home, while the care home onsite offers a higher level of support. All accommodation comes fitted with a community alarm system, and emergency cover is available 24 hours a day. Gardeners, maintenance and care services are all provided for residents and specialist external contractors are employed by the Nautilus Welfare Fund to ensure that the highest standards are maintained.

The homes are situated in 16 acres of immaculately kept grounds with views of the River Mersey and the iconic Liverpool waterfront. Mariners' Park residents are also welcome to use the facilities in the Trinity House Hub, which opened in 2014 and provides additional social areas and essential services such as a laundry, hairdressers and a gym. The Centenary Wing also includes a games room as well as independent living accommodation.

The individual care plans, wide range of facilities and variety of housing options ensure that Mariners' Park provides retired seafarers and their dependants with a home for life.

If you are, or someone you know is, a retired seafarer who would like to live among other 'sea salts' then please contact us to arrange a visit.

Nautilus House

History was made at Mariners’ Park in April 2025, as Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal officially opened Nautilus House − a state-of-the-art accommodation and head office for Nautilus International.

The complex contains 27 supported living apartments, offering residents commanding views of the River Mersey and Liverpool's iconic waterfront.

Seafarers nearing retirement can book a tour via our Contact us page.

Princess Anne, who has a longstanding connection with maritime affairs as a patron of several maritime charities, toured the facilities and met residents and staff during her visit. The Princess Royal previously opened the Trinity House Hub at the same site in 2014, demonstrating her continued support for the maritime community.

During the ceremony, Nautilus International conferred Honorary Union membership upon The Princess Royal, recognising her unwavering dedication to maritime causes throughout her public life. The award was unanimously approved by the Nautilus Council.

Bungalows for veteran seafarers

Retired Merchant Navy 'veterans' can also benefit from bungalows built with them in mind.

Two of 12 apartments in the John Fay block are specifically for veteran mariners and their dependants, and are the result of a partnership between the Nautilus Welfare Fund charity and Seafarers UK who secured financial support from the Aged Veterans' Fund.

Named after a former trustee of the International Transport Workers' Federation seafarers' section, the John Fay apartment block also received a grant from the ITF Seafarers Trust of £600,000 towards the total cost for the Nautilus Welfare Fund.

The 12 independent living apartments in the block include 11 two bedrooms and a one bedroom flat - each either have a balcony or patio and an en-suite wet room. Opened in 2019, they marked another phase in the modernisation of properties at Mariners' Park ensuring up to date, accessible homes for retired mariners.

Any veteran mariners or retired seafarers and their dependants interested in finding out more about these properties can contact the Nautilus Welfare Fund on 0151 346 8840, or email welfare@nautilusint.org, or write to The Nautilus Welfare Fund, Trinity House Hub, 21 Webster Avenue, Mariners' Park, Wallasey CH44 0AE.
